Sustainable Design is an integrated approach of developing relationships between the Environment, the Economy, and the social Equity of a project. Green Building Design promotes a healthy and comfortable environment for the consumer, financially relies on resource efficiency, and incorporates community connectivity. The entire life cycle of the building is balanced by the economic investment, the environmental impact, and the performance of the building.
LEED, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a standard / rating system for design, construction and the operation of sustainable buildings. It is a performance based system with Certified, Silver, Gold and Platinum as the certification levels. Its mission is to transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life. LEED is broken down into six categories to promote a holistic building approach.
• Sustainable Sites (SS)
• Water Efficiency (WE)
• Energy & Atmosphere (EA)
• Materials & Resources (MR)
• Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ)
• Innovation in Design (ID)
Although Concept Design Studio has a LEED certified staff, and has completed multitude of LEED certified projects, we strive to incorporate sustainable building practices in each and every design.
The level of sustainability is typically driven by the investment cost. Utilizing sustainable materials and practices that are readily available is key. The intent of the building can then further push the envelope through creative design. The idea is to get the best bang for your buck, while using the specific features of the building to possibly teach and inspire.
